Why Buy an Electric Scooter With Seat

Electric Scooter With Seat

Electric Scooters With Seats

The standup e-scooter is now so common that we forget they were not a part of the urban traffic scene not that long ago. Today, we see them in most cities, and the sight of someone zipping along en route to their destination is as common as seeing joggers or bikers.

Standing
while riding, still seems to be the most common choice, and for shared scooters, is the idea of maximum practicality.

For privately owned e-scooters though, there is an upsurge in scooters with seats. Expect them to become a more common sight as riders that have longer distances to commute will get one as they find that standing is not as comfortable as sitting down for longer rides.

If you have any kind of back issue, leg ache, or some other hindrance, or maybe your commute to work is long, or you just prefer to sit while riding, you don't have to rule this way of transport out.

Electric scooters with seats
offer a range of benefits, catering to diverse needs and enhancing the overall scooter experience. For the elderly or individuals with disabilities, seated e-scooters provide a comfortable, stable mode of transport, allowing them to navigate with greater ease and independence. This feature also benefits those with temporary or long-term injuries, enabling mobility without aggravating their condition.

For commuters facing long distances, seated e-scooters offer a more comfortable journey compared to standing models. The added support reduces fatigue, making daily commutes more enjoyable and less physically demanding. This aspect is particularly advantageous for professionals like warehouse workers, who may use e-scooters for extended periods. The seated option helps maintain energy levels and productivity throughout the workday.

In the tourism sector, seated e-scooters open up new possibilities for longer tours and explorations. They provide a relaxed and accessible way for tourists to cover more ground without the physical strain, making sightseeing more inclusive and enjoyable for all ages and fitness levels.

Overall, electric scooters with seats are a versatile solution, accommodating a wider range of users and purposes, from aiding mobility to enhancing comfort during long rides, thereby broadening the appeal and practicality of e-scooters in various contexts.

Key features to look for in an e scooter with seat.

When selecting an electric scooter with a seat, several key features are crucial for a safe, comfortable, and efficient ride. Here's what to look for:

  • Battery Life: The scooter's battery life determines its range. Look for a scooter with a long lasting battery if you plan to use it for extended commutes or tours. A good battery should provide a balance between charging time and range.
  • Motor Power: The motor's power, measured in watts, influences the scooter's speed and ability to tackle inclines. For hilly areas or if you need a quicker commute, opt for a higher wattage.
  • Suspension: A good suspension system is vital for a smooth ride, especially on uneven terrain. Look for scooters with both front and rear suspension systems to ensure comfort, particularly for longer journeys.
  • Safety Features:
    -Lights:
Ensure the scooter has bright, visible lights for safe riding in low light conditions.
-Brakes: Check for reliable brakes. Disc brakes or electronic brakes are common and offer effective stopping power.
  • Budget: Determine your budget beforehand. While more expensive scooters often offer better features and durability, many affordable options don't compromise on essential features.
  • Intended Use: Consider how you plan to use the scooter. For leisurely rides in parks, basic models may suffice. However, you might want a scooter with more robust features like higher speed and range for daily commuting.
  • Terrain: Assess the common terrain you'll be riding on. Rough, uneven surfaces require scooters with better suspension and more robust tires.
  • Test Rides and Research: If possible, take a test ride to get a feel of the scooter. Read reviews and do thorough research online to understand the performance and reliability of the model you're interested in.

By considering these factors, you can make an informed decision and choose an electric scooter with a seat that best suits your needs, ensuring a blend of comfort, efficiency, and safety.

Riding an electric scooter with a seat safely requires adherence to both equipment and behavioral guidelines:

  • Safety Gear: Always wear a helmet, regardless of the journey's length. Consider additional protective gear like knee and elbow pads, especially for longer rides or higher speeds.
  • Rules of the Road: Familiarize yourself with and obey local traffic laws. Ride in designated areas, use bike lanes when available, and always yield to pedestrians.
  • Safe Riding Practices: Maintain a steady, controlled speed and avoid sudden maneuvers. Be vigilant of road conditions and obstacles. Use lights and reflectors for visibility, especially during early morning, evening, or in poor weather conditions.
  • Local Regulations: Each area may have specific laws regarding electric scooters. Ensure you're aware of and comply with these, including speed limits, helmet laws, and age restrictions.

Prioritizing these safety aspects will not only protect you but also contribute to a safer environment for all road users.

Below we have listed our top ten choices for best seated electric scooters as of today.

Horizon - Best Choice for Commuting

Fluid Horizon with seat - Best Electric Scooter with Seat

This versatile scooter is crafted as a comprehensive adult electric scooter, ideal for budget conscious buyers and those advancing from basic models. It surpasses the mileage range of models like the Xiaomi M365, thanks to its robust 500W/800W peak power motor, adept at conquering 15% gradients with ease. Its top speed impresses at 23 mph (37 kph), making it highly suitable for urban commuting.

The Horizon, tailored for city travel, balances slightly heavier dimensions against its peers at 40/42 lbs (18/19 kg), maintaining portability for seamless integration with public transport. It offers two battery variants, providing a choice between 20 or 25 mile ranges (32 or 40 km), influencing its weight variance. The recharge time is a manageable 5-6 hours.

Its dual suspension system uniquely pairs an air-filled front tire with a solid rear tire, effectively eliminating the risk of rear flats while minimizing maintenance needs. This combination ensures a smooth and balanced ride, keeping riders comfortable even on extended journeys.

The rear drum and regenerative braking system are efficiently managed via a lever on the left handlebar, with a gentle pull activating the regen brake and a firmer pull engaging the rear drum brake. Despite its near lightweight category, at 40/42 lbs (18/19 kg), it folds into a compact unit measuring 38.6 x 7.1 x 14.6 inches (98 x 18 x 37 cm), ideal for stowing in small spaces.

Equipped with an LCD display, LED lights, and superior build quality, the Horizon is built to last. Experts often hail it as the best budget electric scooter for daily use, thanks to its thoughtful design and functionality tailored for urban environments.

And you can add a seat. This fast folding seat is easy to install and even easier to use. It is adjustable to accommodate a range of riders and includes a built-in suspension spring. The seat shaft folds down and to the side to allow the scooter to still fold.

PROS

  • Good range
  • Great Top Speeconsidereing it's price range
  • Proven Reliability
  • Very comfortable seat

CONS

  • Stopping distance slightly longer than other similar scooters
  • Lacks IP Rating

Kaabo - Best Choice For Terrains

Kaabo Electric Scooter

Kaabo Electric Scooter, founded in 2013, stands as an early innovator in daily use scooters and a frontrunner in off-road models. Years of innovative efforts have led the "Qibu" brand, internationally known as "KAABO," to be distributed in over 30 countries across Europe, America, Australia, and Africa.

Kaabo's journey as a trailblazer in intelligent transportation is marked by relentless innovation. The company gathers top developers globally to continually upgrade its products. Holding patents in over 24 countries, Kaabo's Mantis series is notable for achieving electric scooter speeds up to 37 mph (60 kph), a range of 50 miles (80 km), and power reaching 1000W. These advancements have elevated electric scooter performance and set industry standards, guiding future research and development.

Kaabo's strategy is to foster collaborative and efficient growth between factory brands and distribution networks.

These are some of the reasons why Kaabo has been part of fluidfreeride since almost the beginning of our journey. They do produce some of the finest the e-scooter world has to offer.

Seats

All Kaabo models are great for commuting. Especially for long distances and over rougher terrain.

Kaabo does not manufacture seats themselves for their scooters but you can find customized aftermarket versions on the internet for some models.

However, upon reviewing some of these options, they are not exactly "plug and play". You might need some mechanical skills or get help from someone who does to fit them. This also means that they are not guaranteed by the manufacturer as to how safe they are and how they might affect the structural rigidity of the scooter. This is the reason why we at fluidfreeride do not sell them.

PROS

  • Simplistic clean design

CONS

  • Feels slow and sluggish
  • Poor ride quality
  • Pricey, especially considering what it offers

A beast of an electric scooter is the best description for this adult scooter. It is still on of the coolest looking with its uniquely wide tires and overall design. And it just got better with this updated Pro version. An upgraded lithium battery provides this e scooter with dual 500W powerful motors.

Acceleration and torque are brilliant and it climbs hills up to 30% with ease. Maximum speed of 26 mph (42 kph), range of 22 miles (35 km), front and rear suspension system, front and rear disc brakes, foldable, a new display that shows speed, mileage, battery life, etc. And it also comes with cruise control, front LED lights, kickstand, well... pretty much what you need it covers with panache.

And now...you can add a seat which is of a foldable design. One might think that if you screw the optional seat in place, it would compromise portability and in so, also your daily commute. But no, with a clever design by way of a quick release, you can tilt the seat forward and then fold the stem over the seat. Which means it is still a foldable electric scooter. The seat is screwed in place by four screws onto the board, and this e scooter still manages to look cool with the seat on.

PROS

  • Still a foldable scooter
  • Comfortable Seat
  • Great power & speed

CONS

  • Original Throttle has some lag (however aftermarket upgrade is available)

Review:

"Nice stable and fast scooter!Widewheel pro scooter is just blazingly fast and fun to drive. The widened tires give me confidence because it's more stable compared to others. The dual motors are so powerful going up hills and front and rear disc brakes are very strong. Comes with a bell too! This is my first scooter by the way and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for performance. An A+ in my book!"

Inokim Light 2 - Electric Scooters With Seats

Inokim Light 2 - Best Electric Scooter with Seats
SpecificationsSpecificationsSpecifications
Motor: 350W base / 650W peakTires: 8" x 3.9" never-flat foam filledDimensions: 42.5 x 41.3 x 18.1 inches*

Top Speed: 21 MphLights: Front & Rear LEDDrive: Rear Wheel Drive
Weight Limit: 220 lbsDisplay: Adv. thumb throttle displayBattery Position:  Under Board

As far as top notch design and high quality build go, Inokim delivers. These are fantastic e scooters. It is super portable, has cool looks, and one of the longest ranges of such a portable scooter. 16 miles (25 km) in real world riding is very good.

It has a 350 watts continuous brushless hub motor with a top speed of 21 mph (34 kph). It is a kick start scooter so acceleration up to 15 mph (24 kph) is not world record material, but that is missing the point with the Light 2. This is more about a refined smooth ride that won't jerk and leap forward like a dog chasing after a cat.

Ride quality is surprisingly good even though it lacks suspension, but it does have two pneumatic tires to soften the blows. The deck has a very low ground clearance which helps with stability but doesn't offer much space before you bottom out. Curb hopping is not recommended. But, it improves handling and control of the scooter. The larger the deck, the better.

Deck dimensions are 18.5 inches by 7 inches (46.5 cm by 17.8 cm ). And it comes with the option of a quick release seat. A base section grabs around the edges of the deck that also provides the setup for the quick release and seat post. Clever.

PROS

  • Incredibly reliable
  • Multiple colour options
  • Award winning design

CONS

  • Lacks suspension

Nanrobot D5+ - Electric Scooters With Seats

Nanrobot D5+
SpecificationsSpecificationsSpecifications
Motor:  2x1000w motorsTires: 10"x pneumatic air tiresDimensions: N/A

Top Speed: 40 MphLights: Front and rear tail lightsDrive: Front & Rear Wheel
Weight Limit: 330 lbsDisplay: Led Light StatusBattery Position:  Under Board

Nanrobot is a great name for an electric scooter since some of their products do look slightly like robots and seem to have the power of robots as well. This is not a toy, it is a proper adult scooter and not for the faint hearted. Dual 1000W motors will propel you to a top speed of 40 mph (64 kph). Long range of 49 miles (80 km) so maybe a good thing that a seat is now optional.

A smooth ride is ensured through its double suspension system and big pneumatic tires. The front suspension is known to bottom out on occasion and dip quite substantially under heavy breaking, so maybe slightly on the soft side even though there are four shock absorbers at the front wheel.

Front and rear disc brakes are a good choice of braking system to halt your progress. Overall quality is ok, but a bit rough around the edges. Thick substantial metal parts we put on our plus list, but some elements of the design and finishing touches are not top notch. And maybe that's why it's priced lower than similar competitors. But if a bit of DIY doesn't scare you, then you will be ok and can put this one on your shortlist.

And now it comes with the option of a detachable seat. It is a shock absorption seat to further provide a comfortable ride and it is foldable. This is quite a big electric scooter, its max weight capacity is 330 lbs (150 kg). So if you are not in that league or your arms are not very long, you might feel reaching the handlebar is a bit of a stretch. It retails at approximately 1300 USD.

PROS

  • High Specs & Range

CONS

  • Rough Around the Edges

Inokim Quick 3 - Electric Scooters With Seats

Inokim Quick 3 - Best Electric Scooter With Seat

Top Speed: 19 MphLights: Front and rear tail lightsDrive: Rear Wheel
Weight Limit: 260 lbsDisplay: Front & Rear built-in lightsBattery Position:  Under Board

The Quick 3 offers even more of the same quality, performance, and design that the Light 2 does. 450W brushless gear motor with a similar top speed of 19 mph (30 kph) and an even longer range of approximately 25 miles (40 km).

Max weight has gone up to 260 lbs (120 kg) compared to the Light 2:s 220 lbs (100kg). This makes this one of the few options of portable and foldable scooters on the market for those who weigh more than 220 lbs. Still no suspension but air filled wide anti slippery tires.

This is a slightly bigger e scooter than its smaller sibling and offers the same ride quality if not better. Also, a kickstart scooter means no zero start but, it accelerates slightly quicker up to top speed than the Light 2 once you've hit 3 mph (5 kph) and for hills, it will be a bit stronger as well. And you have the big deck which also has the same seat option as the Light 2 does.

PROS

  • Very smooth ride
  • Made for heavy daily use

CONS

  • Only has kickstart option

Razor E300s Seated Electric Scooter - Electric Scooters With Seats

We hesitantly put this e scooter on a best electric scooter with seat list for it more falling in the category of toys rather than proper adult scooters. But...it is a seated electric scooter so let's give it the benefit of the doubt. To be fair, since it is targeted towards a teenage customer base, quite a few potential buyers might browse through Amazon to find something for their kid's upcoming birthdays. And, Mom or Dad can still go for a spin on it as well. As far as electric scooters go, the design is kept simple but sturdy.

The lack of a suspension system will make for less of a smooth ride if it gets a bit bumpy but it has chunky 9 inch pneumatic tires to help out if you venture a bit off road. The battery is of a smaller sealed lead acid version which is one reason why we consider it to fall under the toy section. But it will give you a top speed of 15 mph (24 kph).

Is it long range I hear you ask? No. On Razor's website, a range is not given but rather 40 minutes of continuous use on full charge.

The seat is not foldable and doesn't have any extra shock absorption. Again, this electric scooter seems more like something a younger person will learn to ride and use around the neighborhood so portability is not the primary object with this kick scooter.

Maybe it's fair to say that for teenagers, this could be the best seated electric scooter. It retails at around just below 300$ and for that asking price it is quite good value for money in our book, all things considered.

PROS

  • Good Choice for Teenagers or Kids

CONS

  • Lacks the specs of a proper scooter seat or no seat

Uberscoot - Electric Scooters With Seats

Uberscoot
SpecificationsSpecificationsSpecifications
Motor:  1000w / 1200wTires: 11" pneumatic tiresDimensions: 49 x 25 x 43 inches
Battery: 48V 12AhSuspension: Front & back suspensionFolded Dim: 49 x 25 x 21 inches

Top Speed: 20 MphLights: Front & Rear Tail lightsDrive: Rear Wheel Drive
Weight Limit: 117 lbsDisplay: NoBattery Position:  Under Board

On the other end of the spectrum of the Razor e300s, and something we would not get as a first e scooter for our kids (because we love them and don't want them to get hurt) we have the Mad Max looking Uberscoot 1600W. It looks like it can handle itself with its terminator looking cam-link front suspension, 11 inch knobby pneumatic tires that will handle off road easily, and adjustable rear shock absorption system to name but a few features. We do like the twist grip acceleration control.

Brake system by way of front and rear disc brakes, is perfect. Top speed is 20+ mph (32 kph) and 12 miles range ( 19 km ) in eco mode. It is also a lead acid battery although much more powerful than the Razor e300s and it is reflected in the overall performance. Beware though that, the choice of a lead acid battery from the manufacturer is to keep the price of the electric scooter down since they are much cheaper than lithium batteries. But, they need more maintenance and have a shorter lifespan and thus, will need replacing after x amount of charging cycles. In this case approximately 250 according to the manufacturer.

The seat is of a quick release version and lacks a folding design but is height adjustable. There is a hole in the board, stick the seat in, lock it in place, and off you go. This one retails at around 700$.

PROS

  • Good choice for teenagers
  • Solid build quality

CONS

  • Very Limited Range
  • Too Heavy for it's specifications

Dualtron Ultra - Electric Scooters With Seats

If you want to fly down the street with your hair on fire.... whilst listening to Super Electric by Bomfunk MC then this 5400W (yes you read that right....5400!!) dual motors monster is probably on your shortlist or should be. High torque motor indeed. The optional seat will come in handy because you might want to sit down for the top speed number....up to 52 mph (85 kph). Don't even think about commuting on this without all the safety measures known to mankind you can get your hands on.

Double hydraulic disc brakes thank you very much. Long range?...well yes with its claimed 43 miles (70 km), so a detachable seat might come in handy to provide a smooth ride. This is what we consider a heavy weight electric scooter. It clocks in at 81 lbs (37 kg) and you can be a weight lifter at 330 lbs (150 kg) and still get to the gym without it breaking in half. 11 inch knobby pneumatic tires are the right choice.

It is a bit of a faff to get the seat mounted, as you will need to remove the top layer of the board to get the bottom bracket/base in place which will be the mounting point for the seat. Once in place though, everything is proper and feels tight and secure. It is not foldable but with a quick release option to lift the whole thing off when you don't need it. We do love the office chair style height adjustable seat. Pull a lever and the seat comes down. Raise your buttocks, pull the lever, and up it goes. Smart. But that's what you get when you are in the 3350$ price range of adult scooters.

PROS

  • Very Long Range & Great Speed
  • ABS Brakes are brilliant!
  • 47% inclines

CONS

  • You May Experience Stem Wobble
  • Too Heavy for it's specifications

The Whidewheel is one of our top favorites as far as best electric scooter discussions go, once the whole package is considered. Performance, price, design. The Whidewheel Pro as covered above is the development of the entry level Whidewheel and is improved in some areas although they look almost identical. If you don't want to splash out the extra 300$ the Pro will cost you, you can opt for the 2019 version which is still phenomenal. You will have to make do with one rear disc brake, a simpler display, but can still choose between single or dual motors of 500W. Max speed will vary depending on if you choose one or two motors, 20/25 mph ( 32/40 kph) and range 15/20 miles ( 24/32 km).

The seat is the same as on the Pro version. Easy to put in place with four Allen screws and a quick release to fold it forward. So it still falls under the folding electric scooter tag even with the seat permanently in place.

PROS

  • Very Long Range & Great Speed
  • Still foldable with a seat

This one sticks out as it doesn't look like an electric scooter at all. It looks more like an e bike mainly because...well it is a bike frame in essence without pedals. And for some reason, it makes me think this one is what Mr Bean would ride were he to choose an electric scooter. But as far as riding experience on a seated electric scooter goes, it is quite interesting. No shock absorption whatsoever but, with a very well padded seat and with spoked 16” (406 mm) pneumatic tires it still offers quite a smooth ride on paved roads.

Twist grip speed throttle is a plus as well as the wide bamboo deck. Hand operated rear brake works fine. Razor does not give an estimated mile range but rather an estimated amount of minutes you can use it on a single charge, 40 minutes. Max speed is 18 mph (29 kph).

The seat as mentioned is comfortable and well padded. This is not a folding electric scooter in any way shape or form. Think bike with an electric motor. So once you've assembled the seat, it stays put. The choice to go with a sealed lead acid battery instead of a lithium-ion battery keeps the price down but, will require more maintenance, and battery life is not as long. It even has a luggage rack and basket for storage. So definitely an adult electric scooter to consider for your commute if you don't need it to be a foldable design.

PROS

  • Comfortable
  • Luggage rack

CONS

  • Feels more like a moped or bike
  • Seat not removable

If you want to go in a different direction, you are not a huge fan of the kick scooter concept, and you love Italy...you might want to check out the Vespa looking Razor Pocket Mod. This one looks like the ones Italian kids buzz around on at too high speeds in between cars on the streets of Rome or Milan. But...you will be left for dead at the stoplight as this is not a rocket.

Top speed is a mere 15 mph (24 kph) and again, range....yes you guessed it....40 minutes on a full charge, so how far can you go if you feather the twist grip throttle for 40 minutes? But hey, how cool won't you (or your teenager who more likely is the target customer) look when parking it on its retractable kickstand. Rider weight is limited to 170 lbs (77 kg). But hey....it has the biggest seat on this list.

PROS

  • Unique Look for an "electric scooter"

CONS

  • Feels more like a moped or bike
  • Seat not removable

Xiaomi M365 - Electric Scooters With Seats

Xiaomi m365 is the world's most sold scooter. Understandably so considering what it offers at its asking price of just below 400$. Lightweight, Lithium battery 250W front wheel hub motor, air filled tires, foldable, and a smartphone app that you can adjust different settings with that gives you data on battery life and more. Max speed 15 mph (24 kph) and a range of 24 miles (38 km). It is perfect for inner city commutes as long as the ride is done on very smooth surfaces. The lack of a suspension system means you will feel all small bumps and even cracks where concrete meets concrete.

Of course, Xiaomi wants to offer a retractable seat even for such a smaller type e scooter as this one. The chosen solution for this is slightly different than what we are used to by now. A bracket, which you clamp onto the board and that hugs the sides of the board is the base for which you then stick your seat stem into and fasten. In all honesty, though, this doesn't feel like a scooter suited for a seat. The seat has a spring to provide shock absorption but, even for an average normal sized person, it compresses down, so you will feel anything that is not as smooth as a pool table right through your buttocks. The riding position is also not very comfortable. Once in place, it is not foldable, but you can get the seat with the stem out with a quick release. Why someone would want a seat for this scooter is beyond us.

PROS

  • Lightweight
  • Looks good

CONS

  • Flat tires are common

Hiboy S2 - Electric Scooters With Seats

The Hiboy is similar to the Xiaomi m365 in size and type of electric scooter. 350W brushless hub motor, top speed 19 mph (30 kph), range 17 miles (27 km), foldable, lightweight, solid tires though, Bluetooth app connectivity, and so on. Price is also below 400$. Another electric scooter primarily designed for inner city commutes.

It offers something that the Xiaomi does not as far as an optional seat goes. Here, you will lift the board mat, find a hole where you place the base structure in, fasten it, and then put the seat stem into it. Once in place, the seat with the stem can be tilted forward. The riding experience is similar to that of the Xiaomi. But if you must have a seat on such a scooter, maybe the best choice between the two would be the Hiboy since you can still fold the whole scooter and carry it with you quicker and easier than with the Xiaomi.

PROS

  • No flat tires
  • Easy folding option

CONS

  • Handlebars do not fold

What to Consider When Buying an Electric Scooter With Seat

One of the main things is probably if you need the seat to be able to be easily detachable and foldable. The more you fold and remove things the bigger the wear and tear and risk of metal fatigue, as well as play and wobble in the seat stem and other mechanical parts.

So if this is a priority for you, opt-out from the cheaper versions of foldable e-scooters. The suspension system will also play a big part. Lack of any shock absorption will be felt through your body. If you only travel on well paved smooth surfaces it is probably not a big issue. But any type of need to go off road, or bumpier roads, you should consider choosing one with a good suspension system. Overall weight capacity is also an important factor. If you you qualify as a pro wrestler or for the NBA, you will need an e-scooter that can handle the punishment. The more you pay, the better the quality. This golden rule applies to the adult scooter world as well as anywhere else....generally speaking.

Size of scooter is also to be considered as depending on your size, you don't want to sit in a cramped position or if you are a smaller shorter person, having to reach to get to the handlebar.
