WideWheel 2019 Throttle and Keybox

Sale price Price $79.00 Regular price $79.00

WideWheel Keybox for 2019 WideWheel.

Disable your scooter by removing the ignition key and better judge battery status with the integrated live voltage display.

Also to retro-fit your 2018 WideWheel with this original Mercane throttle.

Easy to install. Note that Mercane changed the throttle connectors inside the top case. If your WideWheel was made before April 2019, you will also have to purchase a new PCB dashboard to connect this new throttle. If you are unsure, open the top case and check if the throttle plugs directly onto the board (pre April 2019) or if the throttle connects to the board via a separate connector in the cable (as of April 2019).

Excellent product

This is the best upgrade for one of the fastest and best looking scooter out there.

It’s an Improvement

The throttle does give a bit more range/control for takeoffs but not as much as I thought it would be. I think it’s worth the upgrade especially when you add in the key start and voltage meter!

Easy to install, but design is lacking.

This new throttle does provide a bit smoother acceleration, but the design seems to be an afterthought. For starters, the throttle side handlebar can no longer fold down all the way due to the key section, as seen in my photo (the black thing is a clip I designed and 3D printed to keep the handle bars from flopping back to the extended state). The key section also makes it uncomfortable to engage the throttle, which has a longer range than the 2018 version. Instead of just rotating your thumb down to accelerate, you now have to poke it with the tip of your thumb to keep from hitting the key. This also requires you to loosen your grip quite a bit just to get your thumb in the correct position. Also, the old model would engage the motors at about 50%. The new model engages at about 25%. So, the dead zone is still a bit much. The only thing I've ever hated about this scooter is the throttle. I love everything else about it. In my opinion, the new throttle could do without the key or the voltage display and just focus on a smoother responsive acceleration and less dead zone. Making it out of metal would also be nice. I had high hopes for this new throttle, but I hope an even better design is released.

Retro Risk

I tried to install my retro kit but sadly it didn’t go to plan.
Installed it all works , the voltage display, the key, my dashboard . Everything works except the scooter and rear light. With no source of assistance I can pay the local $400 to fix it or sell the scooter for parts. Seems a shame given its only done 40miles.
