How to store your electric scooter the safest way

  • Read Time: 13 min

Let's go through some electric scooter storage ideas that will make your scooter survive the winter months in the best way.

There are a few things to keep in mind, nothing complicated though which is great news.

A checklist would include these points

Clean your scooter
Remove and recharge your battery regularly.
Keep the battery and scooter in a dry place.
Pack your scooter to keep dirt and moisture away from it.

Keep It Clean

Clean your electric scooter properly before storage. You should always do this from time to time in any case as a good practice. As part of the regular maintenance, wipe it off with a damp cloth to remove dirt, dust and grit. This way you will also keep an eye on any issues that might be hiding underneath the dirt. Check connectors, maybe they need some spraying or tightening. It will also prevent corrosion.

A clean and dry place is a nice home for an electric scooter to hibernate in. Moist and subzero temperatures are the enemy.

Battery

Winter storage might be around the corner for your e scooter. The most important step, as well as the most important part of the scooter, is the battery. You want as long battery life as possible. This means taking care of your battery properly and there are some things that might surprise you in this process.

The best practice is to remove the battery. This will allow you to check that the connections and wires are ok as well as keep it in a proper temperature range.

Put it in a bag or other container. This way you prevent it from getting dirty or wet.

Recharge it every 2-3 months. Never charge it in surroundings below 0°/32F. This might damage it and shorten the battery life. Use only the original charger.

The surprising bit is that you should only charge it to 50-70%. This is enough for storage and actually better than 100%. The battery capacity will stay strong this way.

Pack your scooter

If you truly love your electric friend you will want to pack it up properly. A waterproof bag or other types of container is the ideal protective cover.

Best Place to Store an Electric Scooter

Make sure it is a dry place. Avoid storing it in places where there is moisture, no heating, next to a heat source.

Check the scooter every now and then. An ideal room temperature would be 10°C/50F.

How to take your electric scooter out of storage

After a few months, it might be time to get back on the road. Fully charge your battery and check connectors for corrosion. Check all the other components as well. Display, bell/horn, tire pressures, and brakes.

In short

Following these simple yet effective few steps for proper storage will make sure your electric scooter battery will deliver its life cycles. If you ignore them, it will shorten the life cycle capacity.

The entire electric scooter will benefit greatly from some TLC and these are no complicated steps.
