Acceleration and Top Speed
PROS
- Proper fast
- Briliant brakes
- Great suspension
- Feels gile even though it is a bigger type scooter
CONS
- None actually, no honestly...handlebars don't fold maybe?
Acceleration and Top Speed
The Mantis Pro electric scooter is seriously fast and if you are not prepared, it can scare you the first time. The acceleration leaves you wide-eyed every time you gun the dual motors and it reaches 15 mph (24 kph) in two seconds!! Bend. Your. Knees. The rocket feeling continues all the way to its top speed which is 40 mph (64 kph). If you ride this without a helmet and other protective gear, you must be on some medication.
The power is instantly at your fingertip, literally, and responsive as hell as you pull away.
Hill Climb
Hill climbing is definitely on the agenda. Even hills with a 30% incline are conquered easily. If you live in a very hilly area, say San Fransisco f.e. or similar, the Mantis Pro is definitely on a shortlist and probably at the top of it, considering it is not a super expensive electric scooter.
Range
The Kaabo Mantis Pro has an LG/Samsung 60V 24.5 Ah (1470Wh) battery which, if riding in eco mode, has a range of 45 miles (72km). And Should you need to travel at top speed and in dual motor mode, it can still do 30 miles (50 km) before running out of puff.
Motor Configuration
Motor power is plentiful with dual 60V 1000W motors that have a peak power output of 3300W. Even in single-engine/eco mode, it moves along fast enough to embarrass lesser e scooters.
Construction & Build Quality
It is exceptionally well built from proper thick metal parts tightly put together. There is no rattling or squeaking or looseness at all. The motors are actually the loudest part producing a satisfying whizzing sound.
Some earlier versions had an issue with the stem folding mechanism. The latest version has an upgraded folding mechanism that is rock solid.
Suspension
As far as suspension systems go, the Mantis Pro is the best in class. An adjustable front and rear spring arm suspension in combo with 10" Pneumatic tires work wonders for the ride. It has an adjustable pre-load which makes the suspension adaptable for riders of different weights.
Ride Quality
The quality suspension and as mentioned, in unison with 10" large pneumatic tires gives the Kaabo mantis electric scooter one of the best riding experiences you can wish for. It is very agile for its size and it does permit precision carving. It is not intended as an off-road scooter but the overall ride quality is so good, you can challenge most terrain and it won't disappoint.
The handlebars are quite high, a great feature, and definitely a correct one as you feel much more in control. Also, the rear footrest ensures you have a great standing position. Phenomenal.
It has the so-called EY3 display where you can set up electronic braking, ABS, cruise control, and motor torque settings.
Very quick access to a button for ECO mode to extend range and switch between single or dual motor mode. The nice wide cycle style handlebars add to the great feeling of control.
Braking
The whole package. Fully hydraulic dual disc brakes, as well as adjustable dual electronic brakes. Knife sharp yet smooth in operation. Braking distance is kept firmly in control by a light touch of your index finger, which only enhances the already excellent ride quality. Top of the line.
Portability
It is portable and definitely more so than many comparable performance scooters of similar size. Having said that, don't mistake it for being easy to carry long distances as it weighs 65 lbs (29,5 kg). But you can pick it up relatively easily with one hand.
The stem folds and locks into place, but the handlebars do not, which can make it cumbersome to get it into narrower spaces.
The stem has a very good version of what is called a collar style mechanism. Basically, it's a metal sleeve that slides down and clamps the stem in position. Opposing quick releases ensures no stem wobble or play whatsoever. Easy to use and strong to boot.
Once folded it measures 48" x 24" x 19" (122 x 61 x 48cm).
Lights
Riding at night you will definitely be seen and be able to see as the Mantis pro has many built-in LED lights. A high-mounted front headlight, turn signals as well as side deck LED lights are an upgrade on the previous base and pro versions of the mantis.
Tires
The rounded profile of the big 10" (24,5 cm) pneumatic tires provides excellent ride quality. Changing them in case of a puncture is also made easier by the split rim choice. It is so much easier to replace an inner tube on a split rim than a solid one.
The tires have a good tread pattern and even though it is most suited to paved roads, they will handle dirt, gravel, and other rough surfaces with ease.
Deck
A very good-sized deck fitted with a Mantis emblem rubber mat covering all seams and other screw holes. Very grippy even if shoes are wet. The deck measures 20,5" x 8 1/4" (52 x 21 cm).
Water Resistance
The Kaabo Mantis now has an IPX5 rating which means you can ride it in the rain. An extended rear mudguard attached means you won't get sprayed all over your backside when riding in the wet.
Reliability
The overall build quality of the Mantis pro is superb and it shows in its reliability. Its max rider weight is 265 lbs (120kg) and the dual spring suspension system is more than capable of handling that.
Known Issues & Solutions
The Mantis didn't start out as the great electric scooter it has become. Quite the opposite. When first launched in 2019, it lacked in many areas that actually resulted in more than 30% returns.
All those issues meant Kaabo had to knuckle down and sort them out. And they did. This has resulted in an overall better electrical system, stronger suspensions, a rock-solid charging port, and a rigid solid locking system for the stem.
Conclusion
Those issues were back in 2019 which is a long time ago in e scooter world and the Mantis has become a hugely popular e scooter voted best in class by some experts on the market.
It packs a big punch and feels like it is competing with the heavier league of other scooters although it is not as heavy. As a commuter scooter for longer distances over varied terrain, this e scooter's performance is top-notch.
