The original Ninebot Max was the "go to" electric scooter for a lot of customers for about 4 years. It offered a lot of performance in its price range. But the world is moving fast and others eventually caught up. Segway has responded with the updated Ninebot Kickscooter MAX/G2. Let's see if it can better the original.

They look similar at a glance but don't be fooled. The Max/G2 is basically a new scooter with a new motor, tires, and suspension system to improve performance and range. It now has a rear wheel drive 450W/900W max power motor with a top speed of 20 mph (32 km/h) which is normal for this type of electric scooter. Most of many electric scooters, in this segment, (lower priced and intended as an inner city A to B tool) are not faster than this. You don't need them to be. It will most likely be illegal to go faster than that in any case.

You can choose three riding modes, Eco, Drive, or Sport mode. It accelerates faster than the original Max and also handles hill climbing better. The battery is the same 551Wh version as on the original Max but the range is longer and now it manages 27 miles (43 km) whereas it used to be 20 miles range.

This impressive range is possible due to newly developed 10 inch low rolling resistance pneumatic tires and by optimizing the power levels between the controller and motor. The dual braking system for distance has been refined and is now less intense. There is no risk of being thrown over the handlebars. A drum brake on the front wheel and e brake on the rear.

The ride quality is very sweet indeed. Front hydraulic suspension, dual rear spring shocks, traction control, cruise control, thumb throttle, and a larger deck, are all there to make you enjoy the Ninebot kickscooter can offer. Add to that the Segway Ninebot app with a host of other specs you can customize your ride with and it all feels quite impressive.

If you have an iOS device, you can even track your scooter's exact location via the FindMy app. If you are on Android, you will have to look for it yourself. The increase in size and performance means that portability is less good compared to its predecessor. It now carries some extra weight with 53.5 lbs (24.3 kg) and it is a bit longer when folded, 47.5 inches (121 cm). But it also has more battery status and higher weight capacity of 265 lbs (120 kg).

A high mounted headlight, flashing rear light under braking, and bright turn signals on the handlebars make a good lights package as well. The cockpit is the same as on the original Max but so many other things have been improved that it definitely is a worthy successor and is a perfect scooter for many users.

To minimize our carbon footprint we have partnered with Trees For The Future to plant trees for every scooter sold. So far we have planted 1 million trees and still counting.

Our shipping materials are also 90% sustainable. Rather than look for the cheapest option we decided to switch from bubble wrap to a paper based alternative. Plastic bubble mailers were replaced by padded paper mailers, styrofoam packing peanuts were replaced with a biodegradable starch based alternative. Cello tape was replaced with recyclable water activated tape.

When batteries need to be replaced once their lifecycle is up, we ask our customers to recycle them via local programs.

If batteries stop working before they should, (usually due to a failure of the BMS) we have a program where a broken battery is opened up and the cells are tested and removed. All the cells are then "upcycled" in large capacity power banks. You can then charge your phone many times with what used to be a scooter battery.

We also work with suppliers to eliminate single use materials in packaging. Easier said than done. Styrofoam is a very efficient material for shipping and so many like to use it. NAMI joined our effort and removed the styrofoam completely when packaging the Burn E.
