Portable Scooter For Inner City Rides
The fluid Horizon is a versatile all round talent, making it perfect for scooter beginners. A 500W motor and large battery deliver great performance and make the Horizon the best scooter in its price range. Front and rear suspension allow a smooth ride through the city and the quick folding mechanism lets you easily carry the scooter on a bus or train.
How it Compares
The Horizon is our best selling all-round commuter scooter. It is more powerful and has better ride quality than a rental scooter
ALTERNATIVES: - on a tight budget and ok with lower range and less speed? CITYRIDER - nicer design and 10 lb lighter, check out the LIGHT2 - an all-rounder in the next higher category, check out the EXPLORE
This is the range you can get under optimal conditions. Usually manufacturers quote this type of range. We expect real world range to be lower since you will not go at constant slow speed.
26 miles
Real World (165 lb rider, aggressive riding, 13Ah variant)
This range has been tested by electric-scooter.guide under real world conditions. Quick acceleration, multiple stops, some inclines. All ESG range tests are done by the same rider and on the same circuit.
TL;DNR - Impressive build quality, enough climbing power and range for my needs, great for the urban street/sidewalk environment, price was right, and it shipped from stock the next day. Would buy again, no regrets.
I chose the Horizon after riding a friend's Ninebot Max - wanted something similar, but with more power & longer range since I'm in a hilly section of Philly. Budget $800ish. Casual user, not commuter, so a heavier unit was OK - not going to be carrying it on a train or walking it into my office. Wanted rear drive, air tires, suspension for curbs and potholes, drum brakes for reliability, battery in the deck to avoid theft. Read a lot of reviews, that steered me away from thumb throttle and disc brakes. Eventually settled on the Horizon over the Mosquito as a good compromise - one air tire, one solid, drum brake, rear drive, optional larger battery (which I opted for, and I'm glad). Smaller wheels than I would have liked, would have preferred air tire in the back, but that's what compromise means. I think it was a good decision, and I'm pretty impressed so far - the unit was even in stock and shipped the morning after I ordered it.
The build quality is superb - it arrives fully assembled, everything was adjusted perfectly. The documentation shows how to tighten things, but nothing needed any adjustment, no loose bits, no rattles, it's all just solid. (I put a few drops of bike chain lube on the handlebar folding twist lock threads, as they were a bit _too_ tight.)
Over the course of a week, I've ridden 23 honest miles - like I said, there's hills here, and I've gone up and down the local 20% grade several times (needed a foot dab or two at one point), as well as some long, slow slopes. I was able to get a 23 MPH top speed on flat ground or downhill on the first half of the battery charge, then it dropped to 20 or so, which you'd expect. I have the regen brake set to max, and the drum brake set behind by a bit so that regen hits first, then the drum comes in on with a bit more squeezing. The only time I ever really use the drum is coming down that 20% grade - other than that, the regen is serious braking and comes on with a jolt, more than enough to stop me most of the time. I haven't taken it out in the wet, so I don't know if the combination of rear solid tire and rear brake will be skiddier than I'd like - I see there are replacement front wheels with drum brakes available from third parties, that may be a worthwhile option at some point if I wind up riding for more than just pleasure excursions.
I've ridden over bumps and curbs, on choppy sidewalks and smooth roadway, and down some gravel/dirt rail trails. The gravel and dirt mix is definitely still a little teeth-rattling, suspension or no - but on any halfway decent surface, the ride is nice and smooth, no complaints at all.
The lights are nice "help cars see me" style, including flashing brake lights which is a nice touch. I've got a bright "help you see the road" rechargeable light strapped to the handlebar. The Horizon's throttle unit has a USB port that I suspect is meant for charging a phone in a handlebar cradle - gonna look for a light that can shine and charge at the same time.
The scooter folds up nicely, I really like the way the handlebars fold up and tuck in. I've stored some velcro straps on the handlebars, that way I can lash the folded handles together so they don't flop around. Folded, the unit is still solid (and no joke, it's got some weight to it.) It's certainly more than I'd want to carry up several flights of stairs, but definitely easy enough to toss in the back of the car if I want to park somewhere cheap and then scoot to the final destination.
Today I rode the last bit out of the larger battery - started out with 18 miles on the odometer and two bars left, took it up a mile and a half of 3-5% grade, then back down full throttle (about 18MPH). Still had some go left, so went out some rail trail to jolt it around a bit, the last half mile or so the top speed was maybe 5MPH - what I expected from a Lithium battery, reasonable power right until it's empty, then not much at all. I expect that with a less hilly ride profile I'd get more than 23 miles, but 23 is certainly in my "more than enough range" bracket.
I let the unit cool for an hour after my ride, now charging back up, I'll be back on it tomorrow to rack up more miles. For me, this is the perfect level of convenient for my edge-of-the-urban-city area - there's a lot of things that are too close to drive to, too far to walk to, and bicycling is just enough hassle that I won't bother going. The Horizon ("Scootibus Rex") is just so easy - helmet on, out the door, go, don't have to find parking when I get there - that I'm much more likely to go to a couple miles to that shop or take-out place or park than I ever was before (especially all the places that are up the hill.)
My Horizon was shipped out as promised by Fluid Free Ride in two days on Thursday.
I received notice from the carrier that it would arrive on Tuesday. Unfortunately it sat at the carrier distribution center over the weekend. It took two days to travel from Utah to Illinois, but it sat at the DC for four days. I lost a day sitting at home to sign for the Horizon.
When the Horizon was finally delivered, I almost missed it because the driver called instead of knocking at the door. It was probably too bulky for the driver. I had my phone on mute and just by chance looked at the phone and dialed the last number that called me. It was the delivery driver and luckily it was just a half block away and returned.
All the angst was caused by the delivery service.
After getting the Horizon, it took me minutes to put it together. I've had the Horizon for about a week and put 323 miles on it.
The Horizon has the power and range I wanted. I have a compact car and it easily fits in my trunk, which my niece's Segway Max was too big.
After just over a week of riding the Horizon, it has met or exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to ride it every day.

Got the horizon scooter and had a flat-out the box. CS sent a new tube but that took another week. Scooter rides great after I had to install new tube. Wish I could get a solid tire to replace front tire. A little disappointed when iy got here.

I love it, my dad doesn’t.
Scooter feels fairly smooth even in these SC roads. It makes a bit of a noise when you accelerate that is just loud enough that I want to check into it when I have time.
Top three things I love: came with a ring bell. Came with a cool Allen wrench set! And gets me to the ~26mph that I was looking for.
Worst three: It’s pretty heavy. There is no water rating so I’m nervous about committing to a daily commute with this SC weather AND pot holes. Lastly, my dad got a nasty black eye on his second ride. Wear a helmet, kids.
